3-D Printers are an incredible invention. The premises is that a printer can print real objects right in the home. Want to order a pair of shoes from Amazon? A 3-D printer can print them - no more waiting for delivery! Companies are creating 3-D printers that can print food! Find a food you want and print it! 3-D printers are also being used in revolutionary ways in the medical field to print organs. They are being used to print replacement body parts such as ears, fingers and even organs. One company is researching a printer that can print skin right onto a wound for instantaneous healing! Does it sound outrageous? It's already here! If you Google it, you will find numerous articles and videos discussing and demonstrating 3-D printing and even ways to purchase one for your home. Although this technology will grow immensely in the next few years, it's important to be aware of this incredible invention that uses computer science in fabulous ways.
Check out all or some of the following videos pertaining to 3-D Printing and/or do your own research on 3-D printing using the internet. http://youtu.be/e0rYO5YI7kA http://youtu.be/G0EJmBoLq-g Write for five minutes minimum in your journal of the topic of 3-D printing and what you think about the future of 3-D printing. As you all probably know, whether to allow or not allow social media in schools is a major discussion taking place in education today. As a matter of fact, it is one of the topics that I am presenting on today at UP MACUL (See my session descriptions here: http://jleiker.weebly.com/up-macul.html). As a student who attends a progressive school who is attempting to #TeachNotBlock, please post your thoughts in your journal today (for five minutes minimum) on how social media can be good to open up to students. In what ways has social media been good for you this year on school projects, learning about school cancellations and staying informed of events and happenings at school. Are your teachers using edmodo? This too is a social networking platform. Include your use of edmodo in school in your discussion. If you are on Twitter or facebook, also post your thoughts - if you have excellent points to make - today and use the hashtags #TeachNotBlock, #leikerclass & #UPMACUL14. I will be watching Twitter today to see your posts. You may be featured in my sessions today. |
