Coding (i.e. Computer Programming, Computer/Software Engineering and numerous other coding related careers) are in very high demand. You may remember a post I made in edmodo regarding a twelve week program that creates software engineers that are getting placed at a 100% rate and averaging six figures! You can read that now if you have forgotten or didn't read that article (link above). If I were not completely in love with teaching, coding would have been the job for me. I had a computer science instructor who tried everything in his power to talk me into it and a friend who offered me a coding job in the Twin Cities starting at $100 an hour! It is an EXCELLENT profession to choose and perhaps one you have never thought would be possible for you. After you complete An Hour of Code maybe you have changed your mind.
In your journal blog, write for five minutes minimum on what you learned from complete the Code.org challenge. Did you find the coding you completed interesting? Why do you think that there is a push for more coding in high school? Did you sign the pledge on the page? Why or why not? If you think coding should get more exposure in schools, go back to that site and sign the pledge. You can make a difference.
