Mrs. Leiker's Educational Portfolio
“To me, teaching is not equal to telling & education should not be a passive activity.”
Mrs. Leiker's entire Educational Evaluation Portfolio can be found here for viewing by administrators, school board members, students, parents or community members. The evaluation process of teachers in Michigan has changed recently and requires teachers to show growth as well as reach set goals. This process requires a lot of self reflection and technology is a great way to evaluate the growth, display it and share it with the world! Thanks for checking out our classroom's progress this year!

What Does Our Classroom Look Like?
See Mrs. Leiker's Home Page for a description of her history and qualifications. In addition, Mrs. Leiker does her best to give students every opportunity to succeed when it comes to classroom tests and submitted work. All tests in all of Mrs. Leiker's courses can be retaken for a better grade. The better of the two grades is always taken. All quizzes, review questions and other test type submissions can also be retaken multiple times for a better grade. Oftentimes projects & assignments can be completed in multiple formats (UDL) in order to allow students a choice when it comes to how they would like to complete coursework. Mrs. Leiker also accepts late work without penalty if it isn't habitual. In the final week of every marking period, Mrs. Leiker opens the entire marking period in order to allow students to get in work they may have missed during the marking period for various reasons. This assures that students have the opportunity to pass the course if they choose to do so even if they got behind at some point in the course.
The students in Mrs. Leiker's classroom are very involved in the tying together of school & community. Our classroom also participates in various methods of writing to encourage and support Writing Across the Curriculum. Parent Teacher Conference HandoutsOur classroom creates mutliple handouts and communication tools for parents. Several are handed out at Parent Teacher Conferences. They are also available on our website. These allow open communication to parents about classroom procedures and routines. It also allows us the chance to teach the parents as well as the students some information about technology. There are also Links to 'What is Moodle', 'What is Edmodo' & Other Parental Information.

Grading Practices & Syllabus
Grading through the use of Moodle, Socrative, Quizlet, edmodo and other digital methods are superior for a number of reasons. There is a clear indication of whether assignments are submitted including submission dates and times. Parents, as well as students, can see submissions and be sure that each and every submission has been turned in for grading. Electronic feedback and grading is a constant. Rubrics are used to help clarify expectations and grading guidelines.
Ultimately, our classroom will be able to use UDL to it's full potential by allowing students to repeat sections of material depending on scores obtained and/or progress quickly through material if that material has already been mastered.

Lesson Plans
Our classroom's lesson plans clearly define what will be completed in class. Although the CMS environment does reduce the importance of online lesson plans, we still continues to update them and includes a link to ALL standards covered in class including the 21 Things, METS, Online Standards, MME Test Prep, History Across Curriculum, Writing Across Curriculum and links to the Common Core Standards (CCS). Click the title at the top to be taken to an example of Lesson Plans.
Substitute Lesson Plans & Seating Charts
Our classroom keeps detailed lesson plans for substitutes including seating charts with a color coded key to help the substitute know who the classroom leaders are to help with any questions that might arise. In addition, Mrs. Leiker consistently communicates with her students from home via edmodo when absent for unexpected reasons. She can be made available anytime and anyplace via electronic methods. See an example of a seating chart created in PowerSchool below (the names and faces of students have been removed for anonymity.
