School & Community Tech Development
Including Improved Communication
"Education is what remains after one has forgotten everything he learned in school." - Albert Einstein
Knight Tech4Teachers Technology Sessions
In addition to technology integration in our classroom, we also integrate technology into our staff of teachers at NVAS. See our Technology for Teachers page to see the tools introduced to our staff via half day PD days, twenty minute optional after school PDs, screen casting and more. In addition, classroom visits have been advantageous within the school. See the tech integration page for information on the change in Digital Citizenship in Mrs. Paul's room after a classroom visit.

Community Communication via facebook
When hired at Norway Vulcan Area Schools, the facebook page had 174 likes. As of this June 1, 2014, the page has nearly 800 likes which equates to more communication to the community and the ability to share the amazing things that are happening at our school district with more people including the technology integration. In August the page could 'reach' just over 100 people with a post. As you can see from the chart, this reach has grown to over 3000 on one post in the end of March in 2014 and to 11,000 in May of 2015.
THE YEAR 2015
THE YEAR 2014
Mrs. Leiker regularly communicates with parents, students, teachers and community members via the Knightly News, email, remind101 and edmodo. On average, Mrs. Leiker sends and receives 50 emails per day from teachers, students and parents alone. Parent emails are of the utmost importance to Mrs. Leiker and are answered as soon as received.

Our classroom uses Remind101 to send important information and updates to both students' and parents' phones and/or email. We even used remind101 for the iPad distribution to be sure iPad updates and information could be shared with all district students and parents with an iPad! In our classroom, remind101 & Quizlet is a truly winning combination since students get reminders with links directly to Quizlet sets they can study for upcoming assessments right on their iPads or smartphones! Our classroom uses remind101 for reminders of upcoming tests, retakes, due dates, vacation days, inspirational messages and other important informational items.

Extra-Curricular Contributions
Our classroom spends a lot of time contributing to our school and community outside of the classroom. In addition to coaching cheer for fifteen years, Mrs. Leiker has served on numerous clubs and committees including the national honor society selection committee, technology committees, Academic Booster Clubs, school improvement committees, anti-bullying committees, and more. She is both the yearbook and key club advisor. She holds a local community tech education course in town voluntarily to give local adults tech help. She manages facebook pages for numerous groups, volunteers at non profit fundraising events, plays the part of chaperon at dances and school events, volunteers at sports events, hosts free iTunesU Courses for students, staff and community members, helps with the digital publicity of numerous school and community activities and runs teacher tech integration professional development at her school. She has also been known to have students stay and even live in her home on occasion.

Conference Presentations (UP MACUL) & Professional Development
In addition to blogging for remind101, our classroom ideas have been presented at conferences including UP MACUL & summer professional development at neighboring schools (Iron Mountain & Kingsford). It is important to stay current in the ever changing field of technology and computers. In addition to completing graduate courses every five years in order to keep certification, conference attendance and presentations at conferences such as MACUL & UP MACUL and continuing fellow colleague PD including teaching graduate courses for Louisiana Tech University is a must.
