Mrs. Leiker brought in Tiles on Tuesday for students to view and explore. What is a Tile? This is not only a test in your writing skills for your journal but also in your Google ability to discover information. Try to find information about Tiles. They come with an app that must be downloaded in the App Store. They also have a social media aspect tied into them. What is that social media aspect? Research, discover and write about Tiles. If you would like to actually see the Tiles, ask Mrs. Leiker in class the next time you are in room 129.

Watch the CBS story on Salman Khan (either in class or with headphones on).
Also watch the Salman Khan Video (either in class or with headphones on) on using video to reinvent education. Visit the Khan Academy. Click the Learn button and choose a subject to browse or search for something you always had trouble with in math or science (i.e. factoring equations, derivatives, balancing chemical equations, etc.). Watch one of the instructional videos. One of the things that has changed the MOST about education is the ability to learn anything, anyplace, anytime. Khan Academy is a resource that allows students to do just that. If you have ever have trouble (or ever have trouble in your future), it is an excellent resource to use to help guide you through difficult topics that you may not have understood the first time from your teacher. Or try learning something you know is coming up in a course so you can be better prepared! For this week's journal entry, I would like you to write for five minutes minimum on the Khan Academy. Include the answers to the following questions: Which video did you watch on the site? Do you think this may have helped you understand this topic better? Why or why not? How can sites such as this help education? How can they hinder it? Is having the ability to learn something at your own pace important (i.e. you can pause/rewind/etc. with video lessons)? How can kind of technology change education? Watch the following two videos (in class unless you are absent) http://youtu.be/6Cf7IL_eZ38 and http://youtu.be/jZkHpNnXLB0.
Write for five minutes minimum on the significance of these videos. Do you feel this kind of technology is going to be prevalent in our future? What features did you like the most? The least? Watch the following YouTube video on the Amazon Echo: http://youtu.be/KkOCeAtKHIc
Read the following article on 'What is Amazon Echo'?: http://techcrunch.com/2014/11/06/lets-call-the-amazon-echo-what-it-is/ Amazon has created a tool that gives direct access to the internet hands-free. It also will soon be giving the ability to order via simply speaking. What does this mean to our society? Do you think the Amazon Echo will be a popular tool? Do you think other companies will create similar devices? How could this help in the future? How might this be an intrusion of privacy? Write for this topic for five minutes minimum in your journal. |
